NBCC-I Organizes First Rwanda Delegation

Sixth AMOPP International Counseling Encounter
In October 2014, NBCC-I attended the sixth International Counseling Encounter at the invitation of its hosts, the Asociación Mexicana de Orientación Psicológica y Psicoterapia (Mexican Counseling and Psychotherapy Association; AMOPP) and Universidad Iberoamericana in Puebla, Mexico. The theme was “Counseling and Psychotherapy: Challenges of Ageing.”

In early May 2014, NBCC and NBCC-I staff members attended the Global Forum on Innovation in Health Professional Education, held by the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies, in Washington, DC.

Malawi Counseling Institute
A group of 10 counselors from across the United States participated in the counseling institute in Lilongwe, Malawi, held January 24–February 10, 2014. This institute in the “warm heart of Africa” was a collaboration between Old Dominion University (ODU) and NBCC International (NBCC-I). Participating counselors had the opportunity to work with the Guidance, Counselling and Youth Development Centre for Africa on its programs, to work in primary and secondary schools, and to facilitate a conference for local counselors and students.

NBCC-I Announces Collaboration With African Union Southern Africa Regional Office
In September 2013, NBCC International (NBCC-I) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the African Union Southern Africa Regional Office (AU-SARO). The coauthored agreement was designed to expand African counseling and guidance services while ensuring the implementation of AU-SARO programs in Africa.

Argentina Tango Counseling Institute
A group of 10 counselors from across the United States participated in the Argentina Tango Counseling Institute from October 23 to November 11, 2013. This collaborative project between Old Dominion University (ODU) and NBCC International (NBCC-I) provided opportunities for counselors to conduct seminars and observe classes in a counselor education institute and to observe counseling sessions and serve in a hospital, two geriatric centers, a community center and a women’s prison.

First Symposium on Addictions and Fifth AMOPP International Counseling Encounter
In October 2013, NBCC International (NBCC-I) was invited to attend the fifth International Counseling Encounter and first Symposium on Addictions, hosted by the Asociación Mexicana de Orientación Psicológica y Psicoterapia (Mexican Counseling and Psychotherapy Association; AMOPP) and Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City. The events shared the theme “Addictions and Clinical Approaches: Scientifically Based Counseling.”

NBCC International Participates in “Bringing Counselling Closer to the People”
NBCC International (NBCC-I) was honored to be invited to attend and present at the Uganda Counselling Association 9th Annual National Counsellors’ Conference, which was held April 10–13, 2013. The conference took place at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda, and included presentations on culture, career development, health and wellness, immigration, abuse and trauma.

Counseling Institutes in Argentina and Malawi
The National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) and Old Dominion University (ODU) have announced counseling institutes in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Malawi, Africa. Counseling institutes offer opportunities for counselor educators, supervisors, practicing counselors and graduate students to provide counseling services, lead workshops, and learn about the state of the counseling profession in another country.
