The Asociación Mexicana de Orientación Psicológica y Psicoterapia (Mexican Counseling and Psychotherapy Association; AMOPP) held its IV International Counseling Encounter in Mexico City in October. The topic of the encounter was “School and Vocational Counseling: Efficient Strategies Inside and Outside the School.” The site of the event was the American School Foundation, which also was one of the sponsors, along with AMOPP, the Universidad Iberoamericana and NBCC International (NBCC-I). An NBCC board member and staff of NBCC-I attended and took part in conference presentations.
Attending the conference were a large group of dedicated Mexican school counselors and administrators, teachers, students, and professionals from related fields. In the audience were also representatives of Cuba and the United States. National and international speakers, panelists and workshop leaders approached the theme of the encounter from a wide variety of angles, including discussions about bullying, suicide prevention, crisis intervention, immersion of learners with disabilities, and vocational guidance.
During the encounter, AMOPP announced it had begun taking certification applications for the Orientadores Psicológicos Certificados por AMOPP certification (AMOPP Certified Counselors; OPCA), and that a group of candidates had taken the National Counseling Examination. NBCC-I recognized the effort and dedication of AMOPP leaders in their work toward the creation of the certification.[Back] [Previous] [Next]
