The Venezuelan Federation of Counselors’ Associations (FAVO), an organization with more than 2,000 members, conducted its I International Symposium December 8-10, 2010, at the University of Zulia in Maracaibo, Venezuela. The theme for the symposium, “Advances in Counseling – Philosophy, Pedagogic Address, and Emerging Praxis,” drew the attendance of a large group of counselors, government officials, students and related professionals. The event was sponsored by the University of Zulia, the Ministry of the People’s Power (PP) for University Education, the Ministry of the PP for Education, the Ministry of the PP for Science, Technology and Intermediate Industries (FUNDACITE ZULIA), FAVO and NBCC International. During the event, representatives from NBCC International participated in presentations, panels, workshops and roundtables regarding the certification process, developments and challenges, and international perspectives and leadership in counseling.
During the symposium, a group of 32 counselors received the credential of Nationally Certified Professional Counselor (NCC-Venezuela). Certificate recipients and participants, aware of the historical impact of this event in the profession, expressed a high level of excitement and enthusiasm, and characterized the event as the re-launching of the profession in Venezuela. This places Venezuela as a leader in Latin American countries in certifying professional counselors, a credentialing step gaining importance in the region.[Back] [Previous] [Next]
